AGENTS Bisant uses agents that simulate real transactions to collect information, rather than software that resides on all your servers. The resulting small footprint makes deployment simpler and less problematical (size of an ant), and enables scalability to thousands of monitored applications focusing on practical results (power of a bison) -- that’s how we chose the Bisant name! Your customers will be monitored by Bisant’s agents. The agents run synthetic transactions against your customers’ servers. For a mail server, the agent simulates a mail client: sends a message to it, reads and finally deletes that message. The agent does this as often as you configure. If the customer’s application is a web server, the agent talks to it like any Internet Browser, the agent reads the results to make sure they are what they should be. This can catch problems at the customer site ranging from a down web server to a web server that has been hacked and had its web pages replaced with political messages. Bisant’s standard agent contains tests for all Internet facing protocols: http, smtp, imap, pop3, ldap, dns and icmp. The enterprise agent provides support for additional applications such as MS Exchange, Oracle SQL Server and others -- plus we can provide additional applications as you request them. Agents can either run on your machines to monitor your customers over the Internet or you can deploy remote agents behind your customers’ firewalls, which will report back to your Bisant Core Repository. Bisant agents require no firewall reconfiguration. Yet another reason why they are so easy to deploy. CORE REPOSITORY The Core Repository is a replicated database of Agent configuration data and customer trend information. The Core Repository is also a central location for alerts and viewing server status. The trend information is used to produce reports, such as application availability over time. The Core Repository database can run on MS SQL Server, Oracle or MySQL. STAFFING AND SERVICES Bisant is flexible regarding services. We can install and deploy the core repository and agents for you, and we can also provide the 7/24 operational monitoring and responses to your customers’ incidents, whether it’s notifiying the appropriate personnel, as defined in the Service Level Agreements you have with your customers, or arriving on your customers’ sites* and fixing the servers and applications that have failed.
